History of the Area

Bulverde/Spring Branch welcomes new residents to its growing patch of Texas Hill Country. Whether you are a young family, a small business owner, an executive wanting an escape from the stress of city living, or a retiree interested in a small town lifestyle without sacrificing access to quality health services, Bulverde/Spring Branch may be just the place for you.

Just a short drive north from San Antonio, awaits the Front Porch to Texas Hill Country. Notably different from its south side neighbor in both size and pace, the Bulverde/Spring Branch area charms newcomers with its laid back lifestyle and small town vibe.

Add mild winters, a scenic landscape and a thriving local economy, and it’s no wonder that people of all stages of life and career want to call the Bulverde/Spring Branch area home.

For business or leisure travelers, Bulverde/Spring Branch is just a 30-minute drive to San Antonio International Airport, where they can hop onto one of 30 nonstop domestic and international destinations offered by 13 carriers.

The area is also ideal for commuters who can easily merge onto major highways and connect with the job opportunities of a major metropolitan area, but still enjoy coming home each evening to a quiet, comfortable community.

For young professionals starting families, Bulverde/Spring Branch provides a safe, friendly atmosphere for children, with plenty of outdoor activities to keep them entertained, including community parks and youth sports programs.

And for retirees, the area offers a slower paced lifestyle with the benefit of an innovative and thriving senior activity center and major medical facilities just a short drive from town.

It’s especially suited for those who spent their careers in the military and those who are still serving their country. Fort Sam Houston and San Antonio Military Medical Center are just 30 minutes south. The nearby presence of these facilities means active military and their families, as well as military retirees who choose Bulverde/Spring Branch as home, can enjoy country living but still have easy access to medical facilities, PX and other military services.

Since 2000, Bulverde’s population has grown by nearly 33 percent.  And the population of Comal County, where Bulverde and Spring Branch are located, is on a steady climb as well. According to the United States Census Bureau, the county’s population has grown more than 9% since 2010. With projections that San Antonio’s footprint will double in size in the next 25 years, and its population will swell by one million residents in that same time frame, Bulverde/Spring Branch can expect more folks will want to escape the bustle of a growing metropolitan area for hometown-style living in Texas Hill Country.
